STAFF REPORT
On Friday morning, Community High School announced its intent to begin a search for a new head football coach to lead the Vikings for the 2025 season and beyond.
In the release by the school, outgoing coach Chris Grooms and Community Principal Dr. Robert Ralston will lead the search for a new coach.
“Coaching is a very taxing task. Coach Grooms has contributed so much to the program, from coaching to field maintenance and all the behind-the-scenes work that often goes unnoticed. His dedication to the success of our athletes and our school has been invaluable. While we are excited for this new opportunity for the football program, we are equally grateful that Coach Grooms will remain involved in many aspects of our athletic offerings. We look forward to the new direction for the football team and are fortunate to have Coach Grooms’ expertise as we move forward,” Ralston said in the release.
The release states Grooms’ future of remaining part of the Community faculty and assisting in the athletics programs moving forward.
“Coach Grooms, who has been a pivotal part of the Vikings’ football program, will step down from his role as head football coach after this season but will remain a vital part of the athletic department. He will continue to coach girls’ softball, bowling and track and will also assist the incoming coaching staff to ensure a smooth transition and success for the football program. As the search for the new head coach progresses, Community High School remains committed to providing a positive and competitive environment for student-athletes. Ralston said the school is looking for a coach who will not only bring strong leadership and strategic insight to the football program but also a passion for mentoring young athletes both on and off the field,” the release said.
