STAFF REPORT
WOODBURY — A torrid start by the District 9-2A leading Cannon County Lionettes was more than the Community Viqueens could overcome on the road in a 60-44 loss on Tuesday night.
Abi Alexander, who went for a game-high 22 points, banked 11 total points in the first frame, highlighted by a pair of 3’s, to spur on a 20-9 lead at the end of the first period.
Community’s Brooklyn Yoes led the Purple and Gold in the first period with four points, while Anna Haskins connected on the first of her three made treys.
It was more of the same into the second period, only it was Cannon County’s Addie King who supplied the bulk of the offense, going for eight total points.
Community leaned on Alyssa White in the quarter and she tallied seven.
Still, by halftime, Cannon County led 35-19.
While the first half was a tad lop-sided, Community played Cannon County much more evenly in the second half and matched the Lionettes’ offensive output with 25 total points.
But Cannon County was able to maintain its double-digit lead and secure the district win.
Haskins’ 13 points led the Purple and Gold, while White also hit double figures with 10.
In addition to Alexander’s 22 points, King chipped in 12 and Mylee Schwartz finished with 10.

Community just couldn’t come up with an answer to stop Cannon County’s trio of Miles Alexander, Lukas Phillips and Eli Phillips.
The three-headed Lion monster combined for 64 points as the Cannon County dealt the Vikings an 82-52 District 9-2A loss on Tuesday night.
Alexander was white-hot out of the gates and tallied 16 points in the opening frame, including four made treys.
Community certainly didn’t play poorly to start and finished the opening period with 15 points, led by seven from Jaxson Williams, but the Lions were able to hang on for a 23-15 lead.
The biggest difference in the second quarter, and perhaps the game, was the Lions’ ability to get to the free throw line and the efficiency once getting there.
In the second quarter alone, Cannon County cashed in on a perfect 8-of-8 attempts—a stark contrast to the Vikings, who only went 5-of-7 for the entire game.
By halftime, the hosts had built a 48-25 lead and never let off the throttle.
