SHELBYVILLE — There is no better way to cap off a fun-filled week of homecoming activities other than a win on Friday night with the stands packed with fans.
Such was the case as Shelbyville Central’s Golden Eagles (4-1) rolled past Wilson Central 44-0 in dominant fashion.
The Golden Eagle defense was in total control, allowing Wilson Central only 50 yards of total offense, 17 rushing and 33 passing while giving up only one first down.
“Everybody knows homecoming can be a distraction, but to see
this team keep their focus and get this big win is credit to them,” Shelbyville Central coach Jud Dryden said.
“Our defense getting the shutout was tremendous. They really played hard and everything that we saw that needed to be fixed last week was fixed this week against a 6A football team. That was pretty neat to see.”
After a slow start, Shelbyville Central settled down offensively and was able to move the football at will, scoring 23 points in the first half and 21 in the second.
The Golden Eagles’ first score was a 5-yard run by Robert Bailey, the kick after was no good leaving the score 6-0 at the 5:12 mark of the opening quarter.
Shelbyville Central added 17 points in the second quarter off a field goal and two passes.
Betzelberger connected on a 32-yard field goal then Steven Bobo threw a pair of TD passes, the first a 52-yarder to Labron Ransom followed by a 48-yard pass to Wiliam Bobo.
Both points after were good for the 23-0 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles took the opening drive of the second half and scored on a Bailey 1-yard run.
He set up the score with a 46-yard run earlier in the drive.
William Bobo hauled in his second touchdown pass from Steven Bobo to close out the third quarter then Nate Zimmerman scored on a 12-yard run for Shelbyville Central’s final touchdown.
The Golden Eagles racked up 425 yards of offense, 176 on the ground and 249 in the air.
Steven Bobo connected on 9-of-16 passes for 214 yards with Mason Shavers going 2-for-2 for 35.
William Bobo hauled in four passes for 108 yards.
Bailey led all rushers with123 yards on 13 carries with Zimmerman adding 47 yards on eight touches.
“Our offense is becoming more versatile every week and more guys are getting involved. That’s just going to help us as the season goes on,” Dryden said. ” What a great crowd we had and it’s great seeing the stands full.”
