SHELBYVILLE — A 22-point fourth quarter by Shelbyville Central slammed the door shut on a late-game rally by Warren County as the Eaglettes completed the season sweep of the Lady Pioneers with a 63-49 win over the visitors on Tuesday night.
Shelbville made a statement in the first quarter with its suffocating defense, holding Warren County to just five points.
Warren County’s Trinity Reynolds hit a 3-pointer late in the opening frame to mark the only field goal by the Lady Pioneers in the first quarter.
Meanwhile, Shelbyville charged ahead with 16 points.
Five different players scored in the opening period for the Eaglettes.
Morgan Pridmore dominated in the paint, scoring six points to lead Shelbyville’s hot start.
Lanaya Young chipped in four points as well.
Although it was a sluggish start for the visitors, Warren County did match Shelbyville’s 13 points in the second quarter, but the Eaglettes still held onto a 29-18 lead at the half.
The Lady Pioneers further cut into the lead in the third, outscoring Shelbyville 14-12, but with the lead narrowing, the Eaglettes took over in the fourth quarter and drew a slew of fouls from Warren County to work their way to the line.
In the fourth quarter alone, Shelbyville cashed in on 9-of-12 attempts and sprinkled in three 3-pointers from Janiya Leslie, Yasmine McFarland and Young to slam the door shut with a 22-point fourth.
Young led three Eaglettes in double figures with 16 points, while McFarland chipped in 12. Pridmore finished with 10.
Reynolds’ 20 points led Warren County.
With the win, the Eaglettes are winners of three of their previous four games and look for a strong finish to the regular season over the final three games, beginning Friday night at Lincoln County.
