COLUMBIA — Shelbyville Central’s season came to an end in the District 9-3A semifinals with a hard-fought 2-1 loss.
Columbia struck the first blow in the first half and held a 1-0 lead after the intermission.
Shelbyville Central refused to lay down, however.
Britzel Hayitin found the back of the net on the equalizer for the Eaglettes.
Later in the second half, a foul was assessed against Shelbyville in the box and Columbia successfully converted the penalty kick for the 2-1 lead, which held through the remainder of the match.
“Although we did not get the outcome we wanted, I’m very proud of my girls. Every single girl out there gave it their all and never gave up. With having such a young team, I am looking forward to watching these girls grow in the years to come,” Eaglette coach Casey Curry said.
