DESCRIPTION:The Tennessee Golf Association will wrap up its 2024 championship schedule at Riverbend Country Club as they’re set to host the Senior and Super Senior Match Play championships. \nThis will be the course’s fifth time hosting a TGA championship. \nThe Shelbyville-area course last hosted in 1994 when they welcomed the Tennessee Junior Amateur and Tennessee Girls’ Junior Championships. Riverbend also hosted the two events in 1973. \nThe Tennessee Senior and Super Senior Match Play Championships will begin on September 24th and continue through the 27th to round out the 2024 season. \nDan Crockett will look to become the first repeat champion at the Tennessee Senior Match Play since Tim Jackson won three in a row from 2017-2019. \nTom Baird will try to successfully defend his Tennessee Super Senior Match Play crown for the third consecutive year after winning in 2021\, 2022 and 2023. \nRegistration for the Tennessee Senior & Super Senior Match Play Championships opens at 9 a.m. CT on Wednesday\, May 1\, at tngolf.org/competitions. \n

SUMMARY:Historical Grave Dedication
DESCRIPTION:The Volunteer-Wauhatchie Chapter of the National Society United States Daughters of the War of 1812 will be marking the grave of a Patriot\, Joseph Holt\, on April 27 at 1 p.m. at The Holt Cemetery on Cortner Road (Hwy 269) in Haley\, Tenn. \nJoseph Holt (1787-1854) was a descendant of German immigrant Michael Holt who settled in Germanna\, Virginia\, about 1717.   Joseph was a part of the 1st Regiment\, West Tennessee Militia\, which included Bedford County.  He served under Major General William Carroll at New Orleans.  Joseph married Catherine Kimbro and they lived at Haley Station (now Wartrace) and were the parents of 13 children.  Holt and 10 of his children are interred at the Holt Cemetery.  Many of Joseph Holt’s descendants still live in the surrounding region.

DESCRIPTION:Southside Church of Christ has partnered with Healing Hands International\, a faith-based nonprofit that provides physical and spiritual opportunities to those in need around the world. They do this through programs like clean water\, sustainable farming\, business development for women\, and resources for local evangelists. \nThrough the partnership with HHI\, the Southside Church of Christ will take part in hosting a Walk4Water event. Walk4Water is an event where they will repeat the 4-mile average walk in an underdeveloped country to retrieve water. They carry as much water as possible for 4 miles! All proceeds will go to develop a well in an underdeveloped country. The Southside Church of Christ Walk4Water will be April 13 at 10 am at the Shelbyville Central High School. Registration will begin at 9:30 am. Participants may spontaneously show up the day of the walk\, but pre-registration is encouraged so that they can have an adequate amount of water\, snacks\, and supplies available. DESCRIPTION:The Flat Creek Community Center will have their regular potluck meal at 6 p.m. on Saturday\, April 6.  Guitarists Ben Ayers and Dakota Lawen will perform a set of traditional music with bassist and percussionist\, Angela Wood\, at 7 p.m. following the meal.  The show will feature songs and instrumental tunes from America and Ireland as well as buck dancing by Angela\, the National Buck Dancing Champion.  Anyone and everyone is welcome to come enjoy the potluck\, classic tunes\, and intriguing ballads. The center’s spaghetti dinner fundraiser has been moved to May 4.
