BELL BUCKLE — A combination of a four-touchdown first-half by Cam Glenn and a devastating pass rush by FRA was more than the Webb School could overcome in Friday night’s 49-14 loss in the Division II Class 2A Middle Region opener.
Thanks to the ferocious defensive front, Webb (2-1, 0-1) found itself behind the chains on the game’s opening drive and eventually punted the ball away from its own 16-yard line.
In turn, FRA (3-0, 1-0) took over at the Feet 41-yard line and needed just three plays from scrimmage, all three from sophomore Cam Glenn, before the bruising back burst into the end zone for the 3-yard score.
Although FRA went to the air on a 2-yard touchdown pass for the second score of the night to go up 14-0, Webb found an answer on a sustained drive that began at its own 18-yard line.
Nearing the end of the first quarter, the Feet  got a huge boost when quarterback Ryan Wirtzfeld connected with Joel Wyatt on a 48-yard wheel route to move to the FRA 34-yard line.
Three plays later, Wirtzfeld connected with Wyatt again on a 26-yard touchdown pass to cut the FRA lead to 14-7, following Caleb Hagan’s successful kick after.
But as quickly as momentum shifted Webb’s way, FRA snatched it right back on the ensuing kickoff via a 95-yard return.
Things continued to spiral in favor of FRA as Glenn went o to score three more touchdowns in the quarter of 45, one and 31 yards for a massive 42-7 halftime lead.
FRA got one final touchdown on an 11-yard pass mid-way through the third quarter, but Webb was able to tack on a final score on the night in the fourth quarter.
Backup quarterback Rayene Chiha scampered 34 yards on a scramble and was able to add the final score for the Feet on the night.
The loss was the first of the season for Webb, but sets the stage for next week’s region matchup at Pope John Paul II, who fell to CPA 42-9 on Friday night.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Hendersonville.
