Hathcock tosses 2-hit shutout in Champs’ win

WOODBURY — Despite committing three errors on Tuesday night at Cannon County, Cascade got a solid outing from starting pitcher Jayden Hathcock and backed his effort with timely hitting as Cascade picked picked up its first district win of the season, beating the Lions 10- in six innings.
Offense was a steady trickle for the Champs, who scored in every inning, except the fourth.
Cascade grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Thomas Demartalaere RBI single in the top of the first inning.
A second run scored in the top of the second inning when Xykaiah Dixon ground into a fielder’s choice, scoring River Maddox.
From there, Cascade went on to outscore Cannon County 8-0 over the following four innings, highlighted by a five-run sixth inning.
Hathcock was in total command pitching with a lead and was aggressive in going after the Lion batters.
He allowed just two hits and struck out nine batters.
At the plate, Demartelaere and Daymian Maldonado each drove home a pair of runs, while Wickey Parker went 2-for-3 with a double.
Elijah Wessenberg and Dixon also doubled in the Champs’ win.
