Kelso, Cullim come up big as Champs down Vikings

BELL BUCKLE – Kaleb Kelso and Jason Cullum combined on 10 treys as the Cascade Champions were effective on offense and found the open shot often in a 73-56 victory over the Community Vikings in a District 9-2A and intra-county game Tuesday night.
Kelso had eight 3-pointers and Cullum had two as the duo combined for 20 points in the second quarter in leading the Champions to a season sweep over the Vikings.
Community (12-14, 1-6 9-2A) scored the first points just 15 seconds into the game as Landon Lovvorn drilled a trey.
But Cascade (15-10, 5-3 9-2A), with the help of two three-pointers from Kelso, went on an 11-0 run to take an 11-3 lead with 2:09 left in the opening quarter.
The Vikings rebounded with the help of another trey from Lovvorn as the Champs took a 13-9 lead to the second quarter.
Five different Vikings scored in the quarter as Community stayed within reach and trailed the Champions 25-20 with 1:19 left.
But with Kelso and Cullum heating up with a combined five treys between them, the Champs extended their lead and led 34-22 at the break.
Kelso added two treys in the third quarter and Henry Stone contributed four points as the Champs widened their margin.
Austin Stickler led the Vikings with four points as the Champions took a 50-31 lead to the final quarter.
The quarter had plenty of offense as the teams combined for 48 points.

ne, and Preston Dunn adding four each, the Champs took their biggest lead at 58-37 with 4:54 left.
Led by six points from Charlie Haskins and four each from Johnathan Lawwell, Masyn Hill, and Stickler, the Vikings had their best offensive output of the night with 25 points and cut the Champion final margin of victory to 17.
Kelso had 24 points and Cullum added 19 to lead the Champs while Stone added 10.
Haskins and Lowwell had 10 points each to lead the Vikings.
The Champs finished with 12 treys and were 9-of-14 at the free throw line while the Vikings had five three-pointers and were 5-of-6 at the line.
Cascade, which has completed district play, travels to Mt. Pleasant for a non-district tilt Thursday while Community finishes its district slate and regular season with a contest at Forrest on Friday.
