Lady Champs cruise at Grundy Co. for district win

COALMONT — Cascade drove in three runs in the top of the first inning on Tuesday night at Grundy County, which ended up being more than the Lady Champs needed take the district win.
After plating three runs in the top of the first, Cascade put a cap on the game with an eight-spot in the top of the fifth and coasted to the 12-0 win over the Lady Yellowjackets.
Cascade jumped on Grundy County in the top of the first when Jocelyn Laughlin knocked in two runs on a single to center field.
A third Lady Champion run scored on a Shalan Burt double to center.
Cascade played add on in the top of the fifth on a sac fly by Burt, scoring Momo Bilbro after tagging up.
And then the deluge of offense came.
Cascade hammered Grundy County for five singles, a double and took advantage of a pair of errors.
In total, Burt had the hot stick, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs to her credit, while Cruse went 2-for-3 with a RBI as well.
Laughlin was in total control for Cascade, going the distance and giving up just one hit while punching out nine Grundy County batters.
