BELL BUCKLE — The Cascade Lady Champions led through the majority of regulation on Tuesday night against non-district opponent Fayetteville City, but saw the Lady Tigers rally for the lead in the fourth quarter and never could recover in the 57-54 loss.
Cascade grabbed an early lead and felt in the driver’s seat through much of the first half, but saw the three-possession lead dwindle to just two points at halftime.
A Lady Champion turnover and basket tied the game at 27 with 6:55 left in the third.
Fayetteville went on to tie the game at 29 later in the quarter before Caroline Parker drilled a 3-pointer to give Cascade a 32-29 lead.
The see-saw affair continued into the third quarter and despite Cascade holding a 45-38 lead, the Lady Tigers went on a 13-0 run to open the fourth quarter to seize the lead and never let control of the scoreboard through the remainder of regulation.
Trailing 53-49, Cascade point guard Kaegan Young drilled a 3-pointer with 1:44 left to pull within one.
But the Lady Tigers were able to hit a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left, courtesy of A’Tricia Clark, to maintain the 3-point advantage as time continued to dwindle.
Young went for a game-high 21 points, while Sophie Ray chipped in 12 points.
Caroline Parker also hit 10 points as well.
For Fayetteville, A’Tricia Clark led the way with 16 points.
