Highway Superintendent Mark Clanton
Bedford County Highway Department’s sign shop has created new county line signs which will be placed on county-maintained roads. (Tennessee Department of Transportation maintains the green county-line signs on state highways such as U.S. 231 or U.S. 41A.) Highway Superintendent Mark Clanton is shown here with one of the new signs. The exact location of the county line isn’t currently marked in many locations, which Clanton said can cause confusion for everyone from mowing crews to emergency services.
The highway department created its own sign shop last year after previously purchasing signs from an outside vendor. Clanton has said the sign shop saves money compared to the previous system.
