Prince, Wessner combine for shutout to lead Viqueens

MURFREESBORO — Annie Prince and Taylar Wessner combined to shutout the Blackman Lady Blaze on Tuesday afternoon as Community improved to 6-0 on the season, claiming the 5-0 non-district win.
Blackman got just a single hit off the Viqueen pitchers— a lone base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Community scored its first two runs of the game in the top of the second—both coming off sacrifice fly balls from Carlie Blanton and Prince.
Haylee Webb later scored on a passed ball in the top of the fourth inning and Wessner scored on another sac-fly, giving the Viqueens a commanding 4-0 lead after five innings.
Community padded its lead with one final run int he top of the sixth when Victoria Wells slugged a RBI double to left, scoring Blanton for the final run of the night.
Prince got the start and the win in the pitcher’s circle, going four innings of dominance, striking out nine and walking just two.
Wessner pitched the final three innings in relief and gave up just one hit while striking out a pair.
