Professor Sidney Harris built a reputation for guiding Bedford County Training School to excellence in both academics and athletics.
His accomplishments continue to be honored with the Professor Sidney Harris Legacy Scholarship Fundraiser sponsored by the Gilliland Historical Resource Center.
The event is scheduled for May 24 at the Bell Buckle Banquet Hall.
The last black graduating class of Harris High School in 1966 will be honored along with the 1965 Harris High Girls State Championship basketball team. Also recognized will be the 1956 Bedford County Training School Fighting Tigers football team, the 1957 Bedford County Training School girls basketball team and the independent league basketball team.
Willie “Termite” Buchanan will be the special guest speaker.
Sponsorship levels are platinum ($2,500), gold ($1,500), Silver ($1,000) and bronze ($500). Individual tickets are $50.
