McMINNVILLE — A sluggish first half ultimately was more than Shelbyville Central could overcome on Friday night as the Eagles dropped a District 9-4A tilt at Warren County, 65-48
Simply put, offense was a struggle for the Golden Eagles through the first 16 minutes against the Pioneers.
The hosts went on a 22-9 run to open the game and held Shelbyville to just two made field goals in the second quarter.
By halftime, Warren County held a commanding 36-13 lead.
But after the break, Shelbyville was able to get the offensive wheels moving.
Tae’Shawn Shelton scored seven points out of the break and Jevon Lee was able to work his way to the line and made good on seven points of his own as the Eagles outscored the Pioneers 19-17 in the quarter.
That trend continued into the fourth quarter as Shelbyville again outscored Warren County, 16-12, but the hole from the first half was just too much to overcome.
In total, Shelton led all scorers with 19 points, while Lee also hit double figures and finished with 12.
Devin Fish led Warren County with 17 points.
As a team, Shelbyville finished 11-of-17 attempts from the line.
