Vikes sweep Mt. Pleasant in non-district action

UNIONVILLE — After struggling to a 1-6 start to the season, the Community Vikings have righted the ship as of late and following a two-game sweep against Mt. Pleasant, now sit on a four-game win-streak.
The Vikings had to grind out a 4-1 win against the Tigers in the first game, but delighted the Community faithful to a 10-0 drubbing in five innings to complete the sweep.

COMMUNITY 4, Mt. PLEASANT 1
During the first meeting between the Tigers and the Vikings on Monday, Community got a stellar outing from starter Kaleb Maillet, who went five shutout innings on the mound while punching out nine batters in the process.
He gave up just four hits.
The Viking battery backed his strong start with a four-spot in the top of the fifth inning—all coming with two outs.
A two-out, two-RBI double off the bat of Masyn Hill put the Purple and Gold up 2-0.
After Tyler Wood drew a walk, Wesley Haley mashed a line drive to left, scoring two more runs.
With a 4-0 lead in hand, the Vikings did surrender a single run back to the Tigers in the bottom of the seventh, but sophomore Dylan Markum was able to work around the damage and end the game with a strikeout and a fly out.
Hill’s two RBI double was the biggest hit of the night for the Vikings, while Haley, Markum, Elijah Westbrooks and Isaiah Beech also singled.

COMMUNITY 10, Mt. PLEASANT 0
Wesley Haley and Maddux Thompson combined to pitch a two-hit shutout in Game 2 against the Mt. Pleasant Tigers, and backed by a massive first inning, Community completed the sweep with a 10-0 win on Tuesday.
Haley and Thompson were stellar on the mound, with Haley taking the win and getting the start on the bump.
He pitched four innings and didn’t give up a hit while walking just two batters.
Thompson pitched an inning in relief and gave up two hits, but didn’t allow a run to cross.
At the plate, the Vikings knocked in six runs in the first, a seventh in the third, and reached the run-rule limit with a three-spot in the bottom of the third.
Josh Sharp was the offensive hero for Community, going 1-for-1 with three RBIs to his credit, while Dylan Markum and Logan Reed each drove in a pair.
Isiah Beech and Cash Davis also doubled in the Viking win.
