The Community Vikings put a cap on a two-game district series on Wednesday afternoon, finishing the sweep against Cannon County.

COMMUNITY 6, CANNON CO. 2
On Tuesday night, sophomore Kaleb Maillet twirled a gem for the Vikings, pitching a complete game and allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out 11 batters.
Community grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Dylan Markum RBI single only to see the hosts rally for a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Lions’ momentum was short-lived as Community answered right back by plating three runs in the top of the second inning.
With two outs in the top of the second, Maillet helped his own cause and singled home the tying run on a base hit to left before Cash Davis clubbed a two RBI single to right, putting the Vikings

up 4-2..
From there, Community played add on with two more in the top of the fifth.
Elijah Westbrooks drove in a run on a single to left and Isaiah Beech bunted and safely reached via Lion error, allowing Westbrooks to score.
Davis went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Vikings at the plate.

Game 2 against the Lions was certainly more of a struggle, but in the end, Community came up with key plays at key moments to hang on for the 5-4 win to complete the sweep on Wednesday afternoon.
Things got off to an inauspicious start for the Purple and Gold as Cannon County was the beneficiary of a two-run homer in the top of the first inning when a fly ball was lifted to the outfield and carried over the fence with gusty winds for the early 2-0 lead.
But after giving up the two-run homer, starting pitcher Wesley Haley settled in and rebounded nicely to end the Cannon County threat.
Community also flashed the leather and cut down a lead runner at third base in the first inning.
Haley led off the bottom of the first with a double to left and Cash Davis knocked in the first run when he ground out to first.
Cannon County got a run back in the top of the third before Community took advantage of some Lion miscues to tie the game at three.
Kaleb Maillet scored on a wild pitch and then Davis crossed the plate on a fielding error by Cannon county, leaving the game tied at three.
The Lions later took a 4-3 lead off a bases-loaded walk in the fourth, but again, Community answered in the bottom of the inning.
After putting three runners on base to start the fifth, Community got two runs across the plate when Dylan Markum scored on an error.
Davis also scored on the play which resulted in the game-winning run.
Community connected on just four hits, but Haley’s double was the biggest hit of the game.
He pitched seven innings and was effective at getting key outs. He allowed four runs on six hits, only three of which were earned and struck out four.
