JAMESTOWN — In a Saturday evening, non-district matchup, the Community Vikings walked away from with a 52-50 thrilling win over the Dragons.
Through the first two quarters, York relied on the efforts of JD Bristol, who totaled eight points in the first quarter, and a stellar shooting effort from the perimeter.
York connected on five first-half treys to help build a 27-21 lead over the Vikings.
Community relied on its balanced effort on the offensive end of the court to keep it close.
In total, five different Vikings scored in the first half, with Jaxson Williams and Austin Stickler both posting a team-best five points in the first half.
Out of the half though, Community took complete control of the game and held York to a single field goal in the third.
The Vikings, meanwhile, continued to spread its offense around and the Purple and Gold was able to outscore York 16-4 in the quarter.
Landon Lovvorn went for five points in the quarter and after the third, the Vikings led 37-32.
But eventually, York’s offense found its traction again and the Dragons rallied for 18 points in the fourth.
Despite outscoring Community 18-15, Community got just enough production from Stickler and at the free throw line to hang on for the thrilling two-point win.
Stickler scored six points in the fourth and as a team, Community made 4-of-6 tries at the line.
Stickler led three Vikings in double figures with 15 points, while Lovvorn chipped in 12.
Zach Leathers added 10 as well.
