LYNNVILLE — A steady trickle of offense on Tuesday night was just what the doctor ordered as the Purple and Gold fought off a pesky Richland team for a 4-2 non-district win on Tuesday night.
Community grabbed a one-run lead in the top of the first inning after a lead-off walk by Anna Haskins.
She eventually rounded her way around the bags and scored on a RBI single from Mattie Maxey.
Following two scoreless frames in the second and third, Community padded its lead with a run in the fourth and fifth innings.
Victoria Wells singled home the second run of the game in the top of the fourth, allowing Annie Prince to score for the 2-0 Viqueen lead.
Community went up 3-0 in the top of the fifth after three-straight one-out singles by Taylar Wessner, Haylee Webb and a RBI single from Alana Tate.
Richland got two back in the bottom of the sixth, but even with the Lady Raiders cutting it to a one-run Viqueen lead, Community played add on in the top of the seventh when Webb scored on a passed ball for the final run of the night.
After the insurance run by Webb in the top of the inning, Prince, who pitched in relief, shut Richland down with a 1-2-3 seventh frame to secure the Viqueens’ 20th win of the season.
Webb led Community, going 2-for-4 with a triple, while Maxey, Tate and Wells each drove in a run.
Webb pitched three innings and gave up two runs on four hits while Prince took the win, giving up just one hit and striking out 10 batters.
