COLUMBIA — Community’s start to the 2025 season has been nothing short of dominant and that trend continued on Friday in the Zion Christian tournament. While the tournament typically spans over the course of two days, inclement weather on Saturday forced the games to be played on Friday evening and the Viqueens picked up a 9-2 win over Mt. Pleasant and an 11-1 win over host Zion Christian.
COMMUNITY 9, MT. PLEASANT 2
A four-run second inning was more than enough to lift the Viqueens in Game 1 on Friday as Community hammered out 11 hits and took the 9-2 win over Mt. Pleasant.
Community grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first but put the game well out of reach with a four spot in the second frame.
Carlie Blanton led the Viqueens with three RBIs and a double, while Mattie Maxey, Gracie Daniel and Anna Haskins all had two-hit games.
In the pitcher’s circle, Haylee Webb and Daniel split time, each pitching three innings.
Webb allowed two runs on three hits and gave up just one walk, while Daniel pitched three shutout innings with five strikeouts to her credit.

COMMUNITY 11, ZION CHRISTIAN 1
Although Zion Christian grabbed a 1-0 lead, Community bounced back with three runs in the second and six in the third to cruise to the second win of the night, beating the hosts 11-1.
Of the Viqueens’ 11 total hits, four went for extra bases.
Daniel led the way, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs to her credit, while Blanton was 3-for-3 with two runs driven in.
Alana Tate also had a two-hit game and was 2-for-3.
Annie Prince got the start in the pitcher’s circle and went the distance for Community.
She gave up just one run but fanned 14 batters.
