COLUMBIA — Webb quarterback Ryan Wirtzfeld threw for over 300 yards and three scores, and James Pierre added another 209 yards on the ground as the Webb School picked up its second win of the season, beating Columbia Academy in a high-scoring Week 2 tilt.
Columbia Academy got on the board with a 100-yard interception returned for a score, but that early Bulldog lead didn’t last for long.
Webb responded with four-straight scores, three of which came in the first quarter.
Wirtzfeld hit Pierre on a 49-yard touchdown strike and Pierre added a second score in the quarter on a 12-yard run.
Wirtzfeld added a third Webb School touchdown on a 13-yard run with nine seconds left in the quarter.
Wirtzfeld went to the air and hit Bishop Adeniyi on a 13-yard touchdown pass before Columbia Academy finally stopped the Webb onslaught with a 35-yard touchdown pass with 4:06 left in the half to cut the Webb lead to 27-14.
Just before the half, Webb kicker Caleb Hagan kicked a 27-yard field goal to bump the Feet lead to 30-14.
While Webb held a firm two-score lead after the half, the two teams settled in for a wild third quarter that saw the two schools combine for 41 points scored.
Columbia Academy got a pair of scores to open the second half on a 43-yard run from Montae Baldwin and a 20-yard touchdown pass from Stephen Nieves and with 8:55 left in the third, Webb’s lead was just 30-28.
While effective through the air, Webb went back to the ground and added rushing touchdowns from Wirtzfeld and Pierre to extend the lead back to two scores.
Although Columbia Academy found a third touchdown in the quarter, Wirtzfeld went to the air with 32 seconds left in the third and found Rayene Chiha on a 45-yard touchdown pass.
That touchdown was the final score from the Webb offense, with Pierre recording a 62-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
As a team, Webb cranked out 250 yards on the ground, with Pierre going for 209 yards on 28 carries.
Wirtzfeld was 21-of-33 for 301 yards and found the end zone three times on the night.
Webb returns home to Bell Buckle on Friday and will host FRA to open region play.
