BELL BUCKLE — Led by a handful of underclassmen, the Webb School claimed a 4-0 shutout over visiting Forrest on Monday evening.
It was a closely-contested match, with both squads standing firm in the midfield, and with both teams having their plenty of scoring chances in the early minutes of regulation.
Forrest’s Bailey Stalnecker fired a shot off the right post in the 15th minute on a breakaway.
Webb freshman Anne Marie Beard answered with a shot of her own two minutes later, but Lady Rocket keeper Khloe Underhill made the first of several key saves to keep the match scoreless.
That scoreless streak eventually broke when Beard assisted Mary Ellis Jackson for the first score of the night.
After the early break through, the Lady Feet kept Underhill busy in the Lady Rocket goal with three more shots on goal in the next 90 seconds.
As time continued to wind down in the first half, Webb padded its lead with a strike off the toe of junior Emily Fisher from 25 yards out.
That 2-0 lead held through the remainder of the half.
Much like the first half, it took about 10 minutes for the two teams to settle in, but it was again Webb who came through in finding the back of the net.
In the 52nd minute, Ellie Landers laced a shot to the back of the net to make it a 3-0 lead for the home team.
While Webb held a commanding lead of the scoreboard, Forrest simply wouldn’t go away and in its best chance for a goal since Stalnecker’s first-half breakaway, missed a prime scoring chance with less than five minutes left in the match.
Forrest had a shot pull wide left of the goal after the Lady Feet keeper was drifted to the top of the box, giving the Lady Rockets a shot attempt.
Beard added one final goal for Webb in the closing seconds for the 4-0 final score.
Forrest will continue its streak of eight-straight road matches to start the season on Thursday at Columbia Academy, while the Webb School will host Community next Tuesday.
