This fundraiser for the Gilliland Historical Resource Center, INC., which is a non-profit organization and was held from 11am-1pm on MLK day, Monday, January 20, 2025, at First Church of the Nazarene. The master of ceremony was Brother Albert Nelson. Opening singing was led by Sis Tameka Coates with a beautiful song, “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. Sis Vickie Cornish welcomed all and grace was said by Bro. Anthony Booker. Lunch was served and prepared by Nelson’s Grill. Everyone attending enjoyed grilled pork chops, fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas, cornbread and a choice of german chocolate cake or peach cobbler.
A tribute to Dr. King was led by Attorney Madison Biggs. He read a letter Dr. King wrote from the Birmingham jail in 1963.
The keynote speaker was Minister Joseph Crismon. A silent auction was also held and many left with hand-made items by local artists.
A special thank you to the sponsorship tables: Nelson and Sons Funeral Chapel, Sis. Ora Lee Johnson Foundation, Community Clinic of Shelbyville and Bedford County, Inc. , Brights Temple COGIC and Bird Street Church of Christ.
