UNIONVILLE — After 13 years at the helm, Viking basketball coach Robbie Davis has stepped down from head coaching responsibilities.
“The locker rooms after great victories and the tears after crushing endings will always be with me. When I began this journey back in the 2012-13 season had I been able to look into the crystal ball and seen all that we would accomplish I truly would have known then as I do now that I am truly blessed,” Davis said.
Throughout his 13-year career, Davis guided the Viking basketball program to consistently competitive heights, which included 196 wins, five district titles, 12 region appearances, four region championship berths, four state sectional appearances and a trip to the Class 2A state tournament.
“All memories that I will be forever grateful for but more importantly I am grateful for every player who gave everything they had to make our program one of the very best,” Davis said.
“These young men have and will go on to be great leaders in the community, great husbands and fathers who I hope someday will look back on their time in the program as one of great memories. The stories of the games tell themselves but for me my favorite memories will always be the practices and the moments we shared away from the spotlights on Tuesday and Friday nights.”
“Coach Davis has been an asset to the history of Vikings basketball. We greatly appreciate his years of service and setting a high bar for the program to annually strive to attain. We are beginning our search for a new head coach to continue our rich basketball heritage,” Community principal Robert Ralston said.
After so many seasons in the gym, Davis now plans to spend some time with his family.
“It has been a big part of our lives and now we look forward to a new chapter and new possibilities in the future. As much as I will miss all those moments in the gym there are times where you reflect on all the moments I have missed at home and I believe now is the time for me to focus and give back to those who have sacrificed for me,” he said.
“I hope that the memories our teams made for the fans are ones that won’t be forgotten and just add to the great legacy that already existed at Community High School. I will forever be grateful to have been given this opportunity, and I wish everyone involved nothing but the best.”
Community went 14-17 during the 2024-2025 season.
