UNIONVILLE — Just a little over a week since the Webb Lady Feet and Community Viqueens met in a preseason scrimmage, Tuesday night’s season opener in Unionville showcased nothing short of a gritty, hard-fought battle for 80 minutes.
Although Community struck the first blow, Webb got the last laugh with a pair of late goals as the Lady Feet escaped Unionville with a 2-1 win.
The match was strength on strength, with the speed of Community’s front line being thwarted by the Webb back line.
For Community, senior keeper Alana Tate made a handful of key saves in the first half to keep the match in a scoreless deadlock.
That deadlock held until Emma Neill broke through from the right flank in the 20th minute to put the Purple and Gold on the board with an unassisted strike, just before the first hydration break.

That slim margin held through the remainder of the first half.
But eventually, the Lady Feet found the equalizer when Amelie Taucare laced a free kick to the back of the net in the 74th minute.
With time dwindling, Anna Marie Beard lofted a shot, nearly from midfield for the game-winning score.
In total, W

ebb recorded three saves, with 11 shots on goal.
Community hits the road on Thursday night for the first away match of the season at Fayetteville City, while the Lady Feet will host Zion Christian on Thursday evening.
