Passersby driving down South Main St. in Shelbyville and visitors to The Fly Arts Center in alike will notice a new splash of color out front. Local artist and musician Ryan Frizzell—known in the Murfreesboro art scene as “The Rhinovirus”— spent Saturday, Sept. 20, transforming a black bench shaped like a butterfly into a vivid work of street art, accompanied with the orange wings it’s been needing. The design is an addition to the Fly’s growing collection of community-driven art projects and a reflection of Frizzell’s long relationship with the center, where he first helped restore the paint and murals nearly two decades ago.
