A strong effort in the circle from sophomore pitcher Kamyrn Farrell kept Community within striking distance, but the Viqueens were unable to find the timely hit in a 2–0 loss to the Dickson County Lady Cougars on Saturday during the Megan McCrary Beech Softball Tournament.
The matchup quickly turned into a classic pitchers’ duel between Community’s Farrell and Dickson County’s Coralee Grove, with both teams struggling to generate offense throughout the afternoon.
Dickson County finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning. The Lady Cougars pushed across the only runs they would need, scoring twice on a pair of hits to take a 2–0 advantage.
Farrell settled in after the inning and kept the Viqueens close the rest of the way. The right-hander worked 5⅓ innings, allowing just three hits and two runs — both unearned — while striking out three and walking one.
Despite the strong pitching performance, Community could not solve Grove at the plate. The Dickson County ace fired a two-hit shutout, striking out eight and issuing no walks over six innings.
Community’s lone hits came from Gracie Daniel and Brooklyn Yoes, while Hayden Moore added a stolen base for the Viqueens.
Dickson County was also limited offensively, finishing with just three hits. Emma Crosby led the Lady Cougars with two hits and an RBI.
The single-elimination portion of the tournament was later canceled due to inclement weather, bringing an early end to the event.
Community will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Blackman. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Community: 0-0-0-0-0— 0-2-3
