After battling back to tie the game early, the Community Vikings were unable to keep pace with a steady offensive attack from Eagleville, falling 12–3 on Saturday.
Eagleville struck first in the top of the opening inning. Tucker McLeary singled down the left field line to drive in a run, and Drake Rzemieniewski followed with an RBI groundout to give the visitors a 2–0 lead.
Community answered in the bottom half of the inning. The Vikings used a pair of doubles by Wes Haley and Isaiah Beech that tied the game at 2–2.
The tie was short-lived as Eagleville took control in the second inning. Brody Gleason singled to bring home two runs before another RBI single from McLeary stretched the lead to 5–2.
Eagleville continued to build its advantage in the third inning when a Community error allowed another run to score, making it 7–2. The visitors added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run home run to center field by McLeary.
Community managed to push across another run later in the contest, but the Vikings could not slow Eagleville’s offense, which finished with 11 hits on the afternoon.
Haley and Brody Armstrong each collected two hits to lead the Vikings at the plate. Haley, Beech, and Logan Reed each drove in a run for Community.
McLeary powered the Eagleville offense, driving in four runs while going 3-for-5 at the plate. Gleason also collected three hits, and JR Duke added two hits in four at-bats. Gleason earned the win on the mound for Eagleville.
Community will look to bounce back Monday when the Vikings travel to Richland. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
