The Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes showed signs of promise against both Tullahoma and Columbia, but one big inning in each game proved to be too much to overcome for the Golden Eaglettes.

Tullahoma- 11 Shelbyville Central- 1

A dominant fifth inning proved to be the difference Wednesday as Tullahoma pulled away for an 11-1 victory over the Shelbyville Central Golden Eaglettes at East Middle School in Tullahoma.

The game was tightly contested early, with the Golden Eaglettes tying things up at 1-1 in the top of the second inning when Kenley Patton drove in a run on a groundout.  Tullahoma responded in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly by Metcalf. Tullahoma added another run in the fourth inning to push the lead to 3-1.

From there, both teams held steady until the fifth inning, when Tullahoma broke the game open in a big way. The Lady Wildcats plated eight runs on four hits to complete the 11-1 victory. Tenley West got the start in the circle for Shelbyville working 4⅔ innings while allowing six hits and six runs (five earned) with one strikeout and seven walks.

Offensively, the Shelbyville Central was limited to just one hit, with Ja’Mya Anderson going 1-for-2 to lead the Golden Eaglettes. Patton accounted for the team’s lone RBI.

Columbia- 17 Shelbyville Central- 5

A 10-run third inning proved to be the difference Friday as Columbia powered past Shelbyville Central 17-5.

The Golden Eaglettes jumped out early, taking a 2-1 lead in the first inning as Janiya Leslie scored on a passed ball and Sydney Moore later came home after drawing a walk.

Shelbyville Central added another run in the second on Leslie’s RBI single to make it 3-1. Columbia answered in a big way in the third, erupting for 10 runs on nine hits to seize control of the game. Harris delivered the biggest blow with a grand slam to center field, part of a five-RBI performance.

The Lady Lions continued to pile on, with Avery Jenks launching a solo home run in the fourth and Columbia adding five more runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 17-3.

Shelbyville Central showed some late fight in the bottom of the fifth when Moore blasted a two-run home run, finishing with two hits and two RBIs, but the rally fell short.

Tenley West took the loss for Shelbyville Central, allowing five runs (three earned) over two innings. Alissa Robb and Rileah Crutcher both pitched in relief.

Shelbyville Central returns to action Monday on the road at Marshall County.
