Terry Stephenson, Shelbyville-Bedford County Kiwanis President, does the honors of cutting the ribbon.

The Kiwanis Club of Shelbyville-Bedford County donated a book vending machine to East Side Elementary School. A ribbon cutting and unveiling was held last Thursday.

There to be some of the first to use the machine, were six 5th graders with some of the highest reading log minutes. The got to select from books, donated by Cooper Steel, such as Mr. Sunny is Funny, Judy Moody, I Survived, and other fiction and non-fiction paper backs.

The Kiwanis Club was inspired to donate one to East Side after a presentation was shown about one at Community Elementary.

According to East Side Librarian, Amanda Robinson, students will have a variety of opportunities to earn tokens that will allow them to “buy” a book from the vending machine.

In the meantime, congratulations to the students who keep on reading.
