At least 3 motorcyclist wrecks in 3 weeks

Crews on scene Oct. 3 requested LifeFlight to land at VUMC-Bedford Hospital. Christopher Tomkins was transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

Motorcyclist dies in Unionville accident

One person has died as a result of a motorcycle accident on the night of Sept. 27 near Unionville.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Oscar Boyd, 48, was operating his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Highway 41A at Longview Road, when James Mosely, 54, was traveling southbound on 41A in his 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Mosely was attempting a left turn onto Longview Road when he crossed into the path of Boyd’s motorcycle.  Boyd was unable to avoid the collision and struck Mosley’s vehicle head on.

Vanderbilt LifeFlight was called to meet EMS at Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital but all attempts to save Boyd were unsuccessful.

Motorcyclist injured

A Murfreesboro man is facing a long recovery following a collision with a truck on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 3.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Christopher Tomkins, 27, was riding his 2008 Suzuki GSX motorcycle north on U.S. 231. As he approached Coop Road, he failed to notice a truck (with hazard lights activated) escorting a tractor being driven by Milford Prater, 73.

Tomkins struck the rear of the truck and was ejected from his motorcycle and landed on the roadway in front of the vehicle.

Crews on scene requested LifeFlight to land at VUMC-Bedford Hospital and Tomkins was transferred to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

THP is continuing their investigation but no charges are pending at this time.

Motorcyclist critically injured

Another motorcyclist is recovering from his injuries sustained from an accident on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

According to the THP, Roger Kelley Sr., 70, was traveling south on Longview Road at the intersection of Kingdom Road, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Jeffrey Watford, 32.

Kelley was ejected from his motorcycle and was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, in critical condition. Watford and his passenger, Patty Aguilar, were not injured.

THP is continuing their investigation and charges are pending.

41A wreck

A Bedford County man is in critical condition following an accident on Highway 41A Tuesday afternoon.

According to the THP, Ryan Heflin, 26, was traveling north on 41A near El Bethel Road, when he lost control of his 2016 Ford Focus, ran off the roadway, entered a ditch, and hit a utility pole with the front of his vehicle. The vehicle then struck a tree.

Heflin required extrication from his vehicle and was transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, via helicopter where he underwent a lengthy surgery for his injuries.

Heflin is currently listed in critical condition, and according to THP, charges are pending.
