Members of Bedford County Schools gathered Thursday, Aug. 22, to host a ribbon-cutting ceremony inaugurating the newest expansion of Thomas Magnet School in Shelbyville, Tennessee. The expansion added four new classrooms, two new bathrooms, and a band room to the growing K-8 school, with hopes of alleviating student overload in the BCS system. As BSC Director of Communications Carol Garette said, “The main goal—the bottom line—was to get kids out of portables.” The four classrooms are set aside for seventh and eighth grade English Language Arts, math, science, and social studies. Members of BCS, Bedford County Commissioners, Thomas Magnet teachers, and members of the public all attended to celebrate the new wing. The ribbon was cut by Thomas Magnet principal Tracy Watson.
