BELL BUCKLE — A four-run second inning and a three-run sixth were ultimately enough to help carry Cascade to a 10-6 non-district win over Huntland on Tuesday.
Huntland grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, only for Cascade to rally for a run off a RBI double from Xykaiah Dixon, following a leadoff walk from Jordan Childress.
Cascade surged out in front in the bottom of the next inning when Childress was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to jump start the scoring.
Dixon drove in a second run of the game when he hit a sac fly to left and then Elijah Wessenberg plated a third run of the second inning on an error by the Hornet backstop.
A fourth and final run of the inning crossed the plate when Childress came around to score by stealing home, giving the Champs a 5-1 lead.
Huntland grabbed a bit of the momentum back and scored two more in the top of the the third, but hte Champs weren’t done playing add on, scoring two more in the fifth and three more in the sixth.
In the fifth, Daymian Maldonado connected on a two-out RBI single to center field, scoring Caleb Crouch.
He later scored on another Huntland error.
Cascade got three more runs in the sixth when Wickey Parker mashed a base-clearing, three-RBI double to deep right for the final runs of the game.
Dixon and Parker led the Champs at the late, going 1-for-3 and 1-for-4, respectively.
On the mound, Dawson Youngblood got the win after pitching three innings.
He gave up four runs on five hits before Jayden Hathcock took over and pitched four shutout innings in relief with seven strikeouts.
