Billy Gene Melton, age 78, of Pryor, O.K., formerly of Shelbyville, passed away July 15, 2023, in Oklahoma.
A Memorial Service, with full military honors, will be 11 a.m. Friday, October, 13, 2023, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Burial will be 3 p.m., October 13, 2023, at Nashville National Cemetery, in Madison, Tenn.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.
He was born March 29, 1945, in Bakersfield, Calif., to the late Chester and Bertha Deramus Melton. A veteran of the United States Marine Corp, he served in Vietnam and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Services Medal. In 2014, he retired from the Shelbyville Housing Authority after 10 years of service, following a thirty year teaching career at the Indian Reservation in Hoopa, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Shonta Epperson Melton, of Oklahoma; daughters, Melyssa (Mark) Casner, and Kyleigh Magana; brothers in law, Gary Epperson and Dwayne Childers; sister in law, Julia Hadley; several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
