For screen printing, embroidery, custom-made products and decoration service needs; Black and Blue is the place to get one of a kind community service.

Debra Nelson and her wife, Roxie, have been married since 2016 and share a deep connection to their community and their business. They have two adult children and have built their professional lives around serving Bedford County. Roxie, a seasoned hairstylist with 25 years of experience, runs Roxie’s Studio 114, a beauty shop attached to Black and Blue. When the couple expanded Black and Blue in 2018, they ensured Roxie’s studio was integrated into the same space. Before establishing her own studio, Roxie spent 18 years cutting hair in Murfreesboro, honing her craft and building lasting relationships with clients.

Black and Blue carries a legacy of community spirit and friendship among the owners. Debra originally purchased the business from her best friend, Ann Sweeney, under one condition—Ann had to stay. That bond remains strong today, with Ann continuing to be an integral part of the business.

“We’re extremely blessed and fortunate to be able to do what we do,” Debra shared, reflecting on the support they’ve received from the local community.

Black and Blue is a one-stop shop for custom apparel and promotional needs.

Black and Blue specializes in screen printing, embroidery, and promotional design, offering both custom-made products and decoration services for items customers bring in. Their capabilities include in-house screen printing, digital transfers, embroidery, and supplying apparel for businesses, sports teams, and individuals. Whether it’s hoodies, work apparel, t-shirts, uniforms, hats, banners, or business cards, the company ensures high-quality results with a personal touch.

Approximately 60% of Black and Blue’s business comes from local schools, sports leagues, and small businesses. While they have expanded to serve surrounding counties, their primary focus remains Bedford County. “We are incredibly fortunate to work with local schools, leagues, and sports teams,” Debra said. “That’s what we do—support our community.”

Debra’s journey in finding her passion for creativity and connection began early—at just 14 years old working at a horse show. Over time, she developed her skills in graphic design and advertising, despite initially lacking an artistic background. “Honestly, I couldn’t even trace a stick figure,” she admitted. “But working with graphic design, computers, and layouts came naturally. I learned through hands-on experience, shadowing others, and being self-taught.”

More than just a business, Black and Blue represents a deep commitment to community and customer relationships. Debra has always loved working with the public, and her business has given her the perfect opportunity to do just that. “We are blessed and fortunate,” she emphasized again. “Not every place has the kind of community support we do. Small businesses like ours thrive because of the people around us, and in turn, we’re able to give back and support them.”

In a world where small businesses often struggle to compete, Black and Blue stands as a testament to the power of local support, creativity, and unwavering dedication to the community.
