C. James Sutton, Jr., 82, of Shelbyville, TN, passed away on April 2nd 2024 at home surrounded by family after a short fight with cancer.
James was born on August 14, 1941, to Clyde J. Sutton and Zuella Templeton Sutton in Bedford County. James graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 1959. After many business ventures, he went on to acquire his real estate, auctioneer, and construction licenses. He started his own business of Sutton Construction Co. and became the owner/ broker of Sutton Realty & Auction Company carrying out a 55+ year career.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Carolyn Sutton; children, Teresa (Gene) Phillips, Missy Hoover, and Mike Sutton; grandchildren, Amanda (Ancie) Dotson, Alyssa (Gordon) Saylor, Jacey (Hunter) Calvert, Ashlee Sutton, and Rachel Phillips; great grandchildren, Ancie “Quad” Dotson IV, Sutton and Sterling Saylor, Mellie and Collins Calvert; and sisters, Marie Padgett and Ann Peek.
James was beloved by his family and friends. He was selfless with a big heart who loved the Lord. He leaves a strong family legacy and memory with the community.
A private service will be held for the family per his request.
