Carroll Wayne Harwell

Carroll Wayne Harwell, most commonly known as “Shorty,” age 74, passed away peacefully in Shelbyville, Tenn., on August 28, 2023, from an extended illness. He was a resident of Bedford County.

Mr. Harwell was born May 28, 1949, in Lincoln County, Tenn., in the McBurg Community to the late Berry Brown Harwell and Frances Katherine Harwell. Shorty worked for many years at Copperweld in Fayetteville, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Bailey Harwell of Shelbyville; son, Justin (Amy) Harwell of Fayetteville; sisters, Mary Ann Brewer of Fayetteville, Maudie Foster of Pulaski, Ruby Twyman of Fayetteville; sisters-in-law, Janice Harwell of Fayetteville, and Inda Browning of Shelbyville; step-daughters Amanda (Jason) Carter and Angela (Beverly) Stephens; grandchildren, Kloey Carter, Baylee Taylor, and Maycee Hammons, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Shorty was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Harwell Brewer; and brothers, Robert Farrell Harwell, Harold Harwell, Claiborne Harwell, Donald Harwell, Billy Harwell, Walter Frank Harwell; and grandson Hayden Hammons.

Visitation was held on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Doak-Howell Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Graveside service followed immediately at 1 p.m. at Wright’s Cemetery, 2900 Pulaski Hwy, Frankewing, TN 38459, where he was laid to rest beside his brother Farrell Harwell, in the Harwell family section of Wright’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hayden’s Hope, 21 Kidd Rd, Fayetteville, TN 37334.
