BELL BUCKLE — Things looked grim for Cascade after the first half of the first inning on Friday night against Cornersville
And then the bats came alive.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first, cascade answered with 19-unanswered runs to beat Cornersville 19-2 on Friday night.
Champion starting pitcher Wickey Parker tiptoed around trouble in the first inning, hitting the first Cornersville batter, and then walking the first base runner two batters later.
An error brought home the first Bulldog run of the night before a walk and a sac-fly allowed the Bulldogs to drive home a second run.
Cascade responded with a huge bottom half of the inning, pushing four runs across the plate.
Caleb Crouch cut the Cornersville lead in half with a RBI single to center field.
Braxtyn Burris then scored on a wild pitch and Crouch followed by scoring on an error before Parker crushed a home run over the right field fence to double up Cornersville, 4-2.
Cascade followed with a monster second inning to blow the game wide open and drove in six runs in the second frame.
Xykaiah Dixon singled to center field, bringing home Jordan Childress.
Jayden Hathcock and Thomas Demartelaere connected on back-to-back RBI singles.
Later in the inning, Daymian Maldonado and and Jaxson Milliken both drove home two more runs.
But the Champs didn’t rest off the huge second and continued to hammer the Bulldogs in the third.
Childress led off the inning with a double to deep center field, then scored on a RBI single by Dixon.
After Cornersville responded with a pair of consecutive outs, Caleb Crouch singled to the infield, scoring Dixon.
Parker then safely reached on a dropped third strike and Crouch scored to make it a 13-2 lead.
Maldonado then singled to bring home Parker for a 14-2 Cascade lead.
The Champs drove in five more runs in the fourth inning to put a cap on the night.
In total, Cascade hammered out 17 hits and saw five different players record two RBIs.
Childress went 3-for-3 with a home run and a double, while Dixon was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Parker was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a homer as well.
Parker pitched three innings for Cascade to claim the win and gave up just two unearned runs and one hit while striking out two.
Milliken pitched an inning in relief as well.
