LYNCHBURG — For the first time since the 2021 season, the Cascade Champions knocked off rival Moore County.
On Friday night, everything came together for Cascade on both sides of the ball as the Champs improved to 2-0 on the season, beating the Raiders 17-10.
It was a collective team effort across the board that saw Cascade crank out 377 total yards against the Raiders.
Quarterback Sam Bradley completed 10-of-16 attempts for 191 yards and a pair of touchdown passes to go along with 11 carries for 92 yards.
Corey Gooch hauled in two passes for 65 yards, including a touchdown, while Braxtyn Burris made four grabs for 81 yards and a score as well.
On the ground, Nate Zimmerman got the lions’ share of carries, totaling 92 yards on 21 carries.
Cascade grabbed the 7-0 lead and played add on with a Gabe Perez field goal in the second before Moore County was able to get on the board in the second period.
The Champs played add on and led 17-7 with a time-consuming drive in the third period, however the Raiders responded with a field goal to cut the Cascade lead to one possession.
That lead held through the remainder of regulation as Cascade was able to keep its offense on the field to run the clock out.
The 2-0 start to the season is the best start for Cascade since the 2021 season.
The Champions will look to keep the hot streak rolling on Friday night with a non-region matchup at Summertown.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Cascade 7 3 7 0 — 17
Moore Co. 0 7 3 0 — 10
