STAFF REPORT
Cascade started off the 2025 District 9-2 A slate on a tough note, dropping two games to Forrest earlier this week.

FORREST 5, CASCADE 1
Game 1 between the Champions and Rockets was a pitcher’s delight, with Forrest starter Tyler Baxter and Champion starter Jayden Hathcock combining for 21 strikeouts on Monday night.
While the strikeout artists were at work, Forrest grabbed an early lead and never gave up control of the scoreboard in a 5-1 win over the Champs in Chapel Hill.
The Rockets got two off Hathcock in the first inning and padded their lead with a third run in the bottom of the third inning.
Cascade got it’s lone run of the night in the top of the fourth inning when Hathcock called his own number and mashed a home run in the top of the fourth inning.
The momentum was short-lived for the Champs as Forrest answered the rally with two more in the bottom of the sixth for the final runs of the night.
Hathcock went 2-for-3 on the night, while Jordan Childress doubled.
Wickey Parker and Caleb Crouch also singled in the loss.
Hathcock went the distance for the Champs and gave up five runs on six hits, only three of which were earned, while striking out eight batters.

FORREST 7, CASCADE 4
Although Cascade brought the heavy lumber and out-hit the Forrest Rockets in Game 2, the visitors were able to complete the two-game district sweep to open the 2025 league schedule.
Forrest capitalized off a four-run third inning and played add on in the later innings, beating Cascade 7-4 on Tuesday night.
After falling behind 4-0 by the bottom of the third, Cascade went to work at the plate with back-to-back singles from Jordan Childress and Xykaiah Dixon to lead off the inning.
Thomas Demartelaere knocked in the first Champion run of the inning on a double to center field, scoring Childress.
Jayden Hathcock then plated a second run when he ground out to first before Caleb Crouch singled on a line drive to left, scoring Dixon.
But as quickly as Cascade rallied to snuff some of the momentum from the Rockets’ sails, Forrest answered with two more runs in the fifth and a seventh run in the sixth.
Trailing 7-3 and down to their last three outs, Cascade got a two-out bases-loaded walk from Jayden Hathcock, but Forrest was able to escape the danger and recorded the final out to leave the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.
As a team, Cascade hammered out 11 hits, with Dixon going 3-for-4 on the night.
Jaxson Millikin and Demartelaere also doubled.
Isaac Winton took the loss on the mound, pitching five strong innings and allowing six runs on six hits while striking out four.
Elijah Wessenberg pitched two innings as well, giving up one run on two hits.
