SHELBYVILLE, TN – Bedford County Chief Deputy Sheriff Nikia Elliott has officially announced his candidacy to become the next Sheriff of Bedford County. With over 25 years of service in law enforcement, Elliott pledges to build upon the strong foundation established by current Sheriff Austin Swing.

Elliott’s platform focuses on three key priorities:

  • Reducing drug use through prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation initiatives
  • Enhancing community policing with zone-based patrols and stronger citizen engagement
  • Supporting families affected by autism, inspired by his own experience as the father of a son with autism, by creating a tailored support system for Bedford County families in similar situations

“I’ve been blessed with the best mentors throughout my career,” Elliott said. “My father, Dale Elliott, and my uncle, Steve Elliott, taught me from a young age that honesty and integrity are the most important qualities of a man and a law enforcement officer. Those values have been the foundation of everything I’ve done.”

Elliott also recognized the impact of several respected leaders he has worked with over the years. “I appreciate the opportunities, lessons, and guidance given to me by Sheriffs David Williams, Clay Parker, Randall Boyce, and Austin Swing,” he added.

He offered special thanks to current Sheriff Austin Swing for the trust placed in him as Chief Deputy. “Serving in this role has been an honor and a tremendous responsibility,” Elliott said. “The experience has given me the knowledge, leadership skills, and community insight to step into the role of sheriff on day one.”

A lifelong resident of Bedford County, Elliott is known for his strong conservative values and dedication to Christian principles. He believes that a safer Bedford County depends on stronger communities and compassionate, professional law enforcement.

“My wife Julie and I have been married for 22 years, and we are raising our two sons here in our wonderful community,” Elliott said. “I’m a conservative Republican, we attend Normandy Baptist Church, and I will uphold our cherished constitutional principles as your next Sheriff.”

Elliott began his career as a reserve deputy and worked his way up to Chief Deputy under Sheriff Swing. His proven leadership and deep-rooted commitment to the county make him the common-sense choice to lead the Bedford County Sheriff’s Department.
