People from across the county and beyond came to celebrate Ronda Clanton’s 30 years as Property Assessor of Bedford County in a well-attended retirement party held at First Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

Clanton’s last day as Property Assessor was on Feb. 27. Her plan is to spend time fishing and relaxing with her family after years of leading and cultivating a healthy office culture.

Many members of the State Comptroller’s office were present with Tom Fleming, a prominent figure from the office in Nashville, speaking in congratulation to Clanton.

Fleming presented to Clanton a gift from Jason Mumpower, the current Comptroller of the Treasury. A flag was flown in her honor to celebrate her career and retirement. Fleming spoke on behalf of the Comptroller, stating that he thought of her as the best Assessor throughout the State of Tennessee.

“This doesn’t happen for just anybody.” Fleming said.

Mumpower was unable to attend the party but had left a message to Fleming for Clanton, reading: “Ronda: Thanks for a great career as Assessor! Hope you have a wonderful retirement plus that you will still come visit.”

Clanton spoke to her guests, thanking the community for their support during a productive three decades.

“Thank you all for your support,” Clanton said, “I couldn’t have done it without my staff, old and new. I love Bedford County and the people in this community.”

Among the other guests at the party were State Representative Pat Marsh, County Mayor Chad Graham, Sheriff Austin Swing along with Drew Reed and Emily Hodges, the two candidates who have qualified for the upcoming Property Assessor special election in August.
