SHELBYVILLE — Shelbyville Central clung to a one-run lead for the majority of Monday night’s District 9-4A contest against Coffee County, but a two-run seventh allowed the Red Raiders to stun the Eagles and escape with a 3-2 win.
Coffee County grabbed an early lead off lefty starter Stephen Bobo in the first inning, but the rookie settled in and didn’t allow the Red Raiders another run to cross the plate while on the mound.
He went six innings, gave up one unearned run on four hits and struck out seven.
The Eagles went on to tie the game in the bottom of the second when Nick Johnson scored off a Palmer Edwards RBI single to right.
Shelbyville later broke the 1-1 tie with a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Johnson went 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Eagles at the plate.
William Bobo and Carston Williams worked in relief for the Eagles.
Game 2 of the series was scheduled to be played on Tuesday, however inclement weather postponed the game until Wednesday afternoon in Manchester.
