BELL BUCKLE — It’s been since the 2013-2014 season since the Cascade Lady Champions (13-15) laid claim to a region victory on their home floor, which came in a 61-36 blowout win against Hickman County.
On Friday, Cascade snapped the decade-long streak and crushed Lewis County, 63-42.
Suzanna Crews led a dominant offensive outing that saw seven players score.
Crews totaled a game-best 24 points and showcased her ability to score in the paint, but also get to the free throw line, where she made good on 6-of-8 tries.
She completed her double-double with 10 boards as well.
It was a steady trickle of offense in the first quarter, with 13 points spread among five players.
The back-breaker in the game came in a 15-4 run throughout the second quarter, with the Lady Panthers (7-17) got just two baskets by Aryn Shepard.
During that second frame, Crews, as well as point guard Kaegan Young, each scored five points to bump the Lady Champion lead to 28-11 by halftime.
Cascade’s best quarter came in the third when Crews broke loose for 12 points.
Young added a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to slam the door shut on the Lady Panthers.
Young joined Crews in double figures and finished with 16 points.
Cascade now gets the challenge of traveling to Loretto in the Region 5-AA semifinals on Monday to face the Lady Mustangs, who were ranked No. 4 in the final Class 2A poll of the season.
Loretto (24-3) enters Monday night’s region semifinal as the District 10-AA champion, having defeated Community in its region quarterfinal matchup.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday night.
