SPRING HILL — A slow second quarter ultimately proved costly for Shelbyville Central on Thursday night at Spring Hill.
The Raiders (2-16, 2-4) took advantage of a cold-shooting quarter by the Eagles (4-17, 0-5) and held on for a slim, 46-43 win over Shelbyville.
The Eagles jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first quarter with Kyler Trice knocking down a pair of jumpers and Tae’Shawn Shelton adding four more points.
But the lead quickly dissipated with the Raiders rallying for 12 in the second quarter and getting a pair of 3-pointers from Jack Whitworth.
The Eagles managed just two baskets in the second quarter and by halftime, Spring Hill led 18-15.
Following the cold second quarter, the Eagles played the Raiders evenly throughout the second half, largely in part to Trice’s efforts.
Shelton went for six in the third quarter and Trice added 13 in the fourth, including three 3-pointers, but in the end, the Raiders were able to scratch together just enough to hold off Shelbyville’s comeback try.
Trice led all scorers with 21 points, while Shelton chipped in 14.
Elijah Carter scored 10 for the Raiders.
Shelbyville will be back on its home court on Friday evening, hosting Lincoln County in another District 9-4A matchup.
