SHELBYVILLE — In their best outing of the young season, Shelbyville Central’s Golden Eagles claimed an impressive 68-55 win over visiting Riverdale in a non-district clash on Friday night
Three Golden Eagles scored in double figures with a total of nine players scratching the scorebook.
Shelbyville Central’s defense was steady and brought constant pressure and the Golden Eagles did a good job on the boards.
“This was a great team win. We played with energy and had great leadership from Kyler Trice and Terrence Johnson,” first-year head coach Shane Young said.
“We’ve been saying that everyone from the bench to the court is part of the team and we are only strong together, so let’s have fun and play hard together.”
The Golden Eagles (3-5) led 15-8 at the close of the first quarter and increased the lead to 33-21 at the intermission.
Shelbyville Central battled the second half but the scoring equal form the most part over the finial two periods, with Shelbyville Central in control 47-34 after three quarters.
Johnson led the winners with 17 points followed by Tae’ Shawn Shelton with14 and Trice with 13.
Ryan Edminston and Hudson Fuqua paced the Warriors with a dozen each.
“I was pleased with how we played with tempo and patience,” Young said.
The Golden Eagles host Centennial on Friday night at 7:30.
