SHELBYVILLE — From the opening tip-off in Friday night’s non-district clash between Shelbyville Central and Siegel, it was clear the Stars were going to lean on their size to exploit mismatches in the paint.
Leaning on that height advantage, the Stars got 21 points from Lawson Lee and coasted to a 62-49 win over the Eagles.
Siegel made it clear from the opening tip-off, the Stars were going to play through the low post and attack the rim.
In doing so, Siegel was able to draw a handful of fouls and get to the line, where in the first quarter alone, was able to make good on 5-of-6 free throw attempts.
Still, with Shelbvyille struggling to find looks from within the arc, was able to keep relatively close throughout the first frame by knocking down four treys.
Ladd Sparrow hit a pair of 3-pointers, while Lamek Johnson and Jasiah Taylor both hit one.
It was more of the same trend into the second quarter, with Shelbyville simply struggling to work around the pair of towering posts.
As part of a 21-point quarter, Siegel’s Dorian Lyles went to work in the paint and knocked down eight points to lead the Stars to a 40-23 lead at the half.

That trend continued into the second half and despite the Eagles posting their best quarter of the night and scoring 14 points, were unable to mount a sizable run at the Stars’ lead.
Tae’Shawn Shelton rattled loose for six points in the period and Taylor was able to add six of his own, including a pair of free throws.
Lee led the Stars with 21 points, while Lyles added 17.
For the Eagles, Taylor led the hosts with 12 points, while Johnson chipped in 11.
