MANCHESTER — Friday night’s District 9-4A matchup between Shelbyville Central and Coffee County certainly had its ups and downs.
After trailing by 10 in the first quarter, Shelbyville stormed back through the middle quarters, but ultimately came up a single point short in the 44-43 loss to the Red Raiders.
Coffee County jumped out to a 13-3 lead, with the only basket of the first frame coming from Tae’Shawn Shelton.
But despite trailing by 10, Shelbyville erupted in the second quarter.
Having scored just one point in the first quarter, Jevon Lee put the Eagles on his back in the second quarter and went for 15 of the 20 points as Shelbyville outscored Coffee County 20-8 in the quarter.
Lee was also 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
By halftime, the Eagles held a 23-21 lead.
The rollercoaster continued into the third, with Lee adding five more points, but the Eagles were outscored 16-11.
In the fourth, both teams were held to single figures, and although the Eagles actually outscored the Red Raiders 9-7, Coffee County mustered up just enough to escape with the one-point win.
Just five Golden Eagles scored, but it was Lee’s impressive game-high total of 23 that led the way.
Coffee County put three in double figures, with Cayden Trail scoring 15 points.
