BOWLING GREEN, KY — On Saturday, Shelbyville Central made the trek to Kentucky to face Warren East in the Classic, held in Bowling Green, and despite a competitive effort through all four quarters, came up short in a 59-52 loss.
Warren East spread 14 points among five players in the opening period as the Raiders outscored the Golden Eagles 14-10 in the opening period.
Warren East relied on an effective perimeter attack throughout the game and sank eight treys, including two in the opening quarter.
For the Eagles, it was Tommie Cannon who banked a pair of baskets in the opening quarter to lead the 10-point effort.
Shelbyville outscored the Raiders 11-8 in the second quarter and got seven points from Tae’Shawn Shelton to help cut the Warren East lead to one point by halftime.
While offenses weren’t exactly explosive in the first half, both teams heated up in the third quarter.
Jordan Taylor scored five points to lead the Eagles’ 17 points in the third, while Warren East continued to lean on the ranged game and sank four treys in the quarter.
In the fourth, Warren East was able to effectively work the line and cashed in on 8-of-10 tries at the charity stripe, compared to Shelbyville’s 1-of-2 effort in the quarter.
As a team, Shelbyville went just 3-of-6 at the line, while Warren East went 11-of-14.
The Raiders also shot eight 3-pointers, while the Eagles got just one, which came from Cannon in the fourth.
