FAYETTEVILLE — Shelbyville Central got just the start they wanted on Friday night at Lincoln County, but wasn’t able to sustain the momentum as the Falcons rallied past the Golden Eagles for the 62-57 District 9-4A win.
Jordan Taylor put the Eagles on his back in the first frame and went 10 points in the opening period, including a 3-pointer as Shelbyville built a 19-10 lead.
Although the Falcons outscored the Eagles 12-11 in the second, Shelbyville still carried an eight-point lead into the half, with Jack Conditt adding five more points, including a 3-pointer, in the second.
But after the half, Reese Smith went off for the Falcons.
Smith totaled eight points out of the break, while Carson Thompson and Elijah Parks each added six as Lincoln County outscored Shelbyville 23-10 to leapfrog out in front, 45-40.
The two squads dueled fairly evenly in the fourth frame, but ultimately, the Eagles were unable to get over the hump left by the lop-sided third quarter.
Three Eagles hit double figures, with Taylor’s 17 points matching a game-high total from Lincoln County’s Reese Smith.
